Students Pair With 4H To Work With Coonamessett Animals
By Maggie Mann
The students from the CCMS farm school are teaming up with 4H to work with and socialize animals at Coonamessett farm. We will each be assigned a goat, donkey, or alpaca to work with and care for once a week. Each student will research the animal that she wants to care for and prepare a presentation to be shared on the farm and with the 4H. As we become more knowledgeable with the animal that we work with, we will be able to take it for a walk around the farm. Some of us may even participate in local and state-wide farm show events. We can’t wait to start working with the animals at the Coonamessett farm!
Nature’s Classroom
By Raquel Silva
With C.C.M.S. kids the sky is the limit when it comes to exploring the great outdoors. From all the way to the dusty trails of The Frances A. Crane Wild Life Management Area to canoeing in the Coonamessett Pond, life is never a bore around these parts. Nature walks are a big part of our day at C.C.M.S. The walks never get boring because we are always exploring something new and exciting. A student of C.C.M.S., Dana Freedman, said, “Our nature walks are so much fun. Sometimes we can even play hide-and-go-seek.” In science class we are currently working on mapping out the Souza Conservation Area. Each of the students will choose a plant from the conservation area to study and research. We also hope to plant a garden in the spring to try out our green thumbs. And as you can see, the C.C.M.S. kids make great use of their outside class room.
Students Thrive through Second Semester Science Assignment
By Stefanie Dorfman:
This term, students of CCMS were given the opportunity to explore the world of imagination and creativity through science class. They were at first asked by science teacher Amy Fish, “What is something that you have always wondered about, or have always wanted to know?” Students took the opportunity to think about their true passions, and what they really love to do. Student Dana Freedman says, “I like our science assignment this term because we really got to explore our true colors and put a personal touch on our science experiments.”
Juju plans to be a bridal consultant when she is older, so she decided to experiment with different color patterns through a science procedure involving photography. Dana loves to bake and cook, so she decided to test how to make the fluffiest muffin using different types of flour. Maggie is a young professional horseback rider, and thought it would be cool to get to know her horses better and test their memory using tasty horse treats. Stefanie has always been interested in pH and health, so she tested how the pH of purified water would be affected if sugar was added. Raquel has always had a true connection with animals, so she tested which toy her dog, Angel, likes best. Lissy has always been interested with medical care and helping people, so she tested voice frequencies with a guitar tuner. Isabella loves photography, so she experimented with shutter speed on her camera, making dark and light pictures.
The students at CCMS have had lots of fun this semester through their science experiments, and have learned a lot.
Physical Expression on Ice
By Juju Adams
On Wednesdays at noon, we go to the Gallo Ice Rink for physical expression. Some kids rent skates, others bring their own. The ice rink is in Bourne. We stay at the ice rink from 12 pm to 1:30 pm. During this time, we skate and get snacks from the vending machines. Some people use a crate to help us with skating. Maggie, Juju, and Isabella have tried some spins on the ice. “Skating really gets us in a good mood. It’s a great workout.” says Stefanie Dorfman. “I think skating in the ice rink is fun.” says Maggie Mann. We have a great time skating, and it’s something we look forward to every Wednesday.
Economics: Small Business Ventures
By Ryan Smith
In Economics, the CCMS students have split into two groups, each having its own project intended to earn money for the school.
My group is making a garden nursery business. We are going to grow plants from seed, and then sell them. Right now, we are contacting different garden businesses on Cape Cod, including the RSC Construction Company, Mahoney’s and Agway to see if they'll donate seeds, fertilizer or money.
If you have any questions about our businesses, or know of any organization that might be willing to donate to us, you can email us at ccmsnursery@gmail.com.
The rest of the students are proposing to start a tour business at Coonamessett Farm. They will offer tours of the farm to visiting families. The tours will add a personal touch to the visitor’s farm experience. The tour group will also be working to educate visitors about the animals. Now that we are working with the animals, we will be able to teach visitors about the history and care of the farm animals.
Shakespeare at CCMS!
By Jack Delli Priscoli
At CCMS we are reading the amazing play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We have been reading the play act by act and then answering questions. Once we fully understand the lines, we watch a little more of the movie (which is always fun). Once we have fully discussed the act we have a quiz on it to ensure that we understand it completely. CCMS student Isabella Luff said, “I love reading this book. It is so much fun.” I personally enjoy this book because it is not just romance, there is drama and violence, so you stay interested the whole time and you can keep reading and enjoying it again and again. I hope you try out the great story of Romeo and Juliet for Yourself. I’m sure you will enjoy it very much.
New CCMS Student!!
By Lissy Smith
CCMS welcomed a new student in February. The new student, Jack Delli Priscoli, came from Sacred Heart Middle School. We did not know what to expect from this new student, but we knew now there would be TWO boys in our class. There was much excitement in the air, figuring that another student would be joining in on the daily activities of the classroom. Jack has now been with our school for almost a month, and he has settled into our school perfectly!
Jack found out about CCMS, through his parents’ online researching. He did not know what to expect from our school, only that it was a Montessori private school. When he first looked at the school, he was a little surprised to see that there was only one other boy. At first he thought it was a little weird, but quickly he grew to like it. Even from the first day, he thought CCMS is cool. He very much enjoyed the fact that some of our classes are held outside.
Jack says that it was a little hard to get to everyone at the school, but then he got right up to speed and settled in. As for the academics, Jack says that all of the subjects are interesting, but his most favorite is the Rosetta Stone.
As far as sports go, Jack enjoys playing soccer, football, and baseball. Jack has two siblings, both boys, one three years old, and the other 11.
Jack hopes to learn more about out outdoor work, and he would like to improve in all of his subjects. We are very happy to have Jack as the new member of our community. The Cape Cod Montessori School community grows everyday, and within each of those days we learn something new about each other.

Creative Writing:
Check out some of our creative writing pieces – Enjoy
I used to be poems…
I used to be
A bunny
Timid and shy.
Now I am
A horse
Strong, quick and not afraid.
Maggie Adams
Once I was
A seed
Waiting for water and sun
Now I am
A beautiful tree
Bringing back life.
Dana Freedman
Once I was
A leaf
Hanging…
Waiting…
For my leaves
To turn golden.
Now I am
A golden pile
Waiting…
To be
Raked up.

Personification Poems:
I saw Joy clearly.
She was plump and small.
She turned and leapt, skipping towards me.
I saw her blue sparkling eyes
And heard her laugh and giggle with joy
And I felt joy too.
Stefanie Dorfman
I saw Boredom clearly.
He was fat and feeble.
He turned slowly and staggered away
Beckoning me to follow.
I saw his grey hair and gray eyes
And heard him mutter his displeasure that I
Wouldn’t come.
And I felt glad that I wasn’t him.
Ryan Smith
I saw Shame clearly.
She was as timid as a mouse
She turned and stood still, avoiding my eyes.
I saw her innocent brown eyes covered by black hair
And heard her near-false tears.
Her voice shook
“I am so sorry”
And I felt betrayed.
Juju Adams
Sonnet:
This Morning I Shall Walk in Winter’s Day
This morning I shall walk in winter’s day
To face the bitter cold upon the hill.
To the rolling field down yonder’s way,
I step into the presence of the chill.
Down river up the stream to places known
And here upon the field I find myself
Standing in the snow fall, now alone.
It’s here I examine an unshared wealth
That I can only find in this right spot.
A blank page to be filled with thoughts and cares
Brush strokes of pain, happiness, sorrow, love.
The notion of leaving has my thoughts just killed
But I remembered to let it remain
To try to take it away would be in vain.
